Racing Victoria is one of Australia’s leading sporting organisations and the independent governing body of thoroughbred racing in Victoria. Racing Victoria exists to develop, promote and grow the sport of thoroughbred racing in Victoria and to safeguard its integrity.
We are looking for a suitably qualified candidate to join our small in-house legal team in the role of Legal Counsel.
The Opportunity
This is an exciting and rare opportunity for a qualified and experienced legal professional to join our team. This role is focused on providing legal services on a broad range of matters, including, but not limited to: general legal process and procedures, litigation, commercial law, privacy law and intellectual property law. This role is also pivotal to our Integrity function in providing advice with integrity matters and enforcement of the Rules of Racing.
Our Legal team are a small group of experienced, passionate and professional individuals who are committed to supporting Racing Victoria being the best it can be. If you are a self-motivated professional who enjoys working on diverse and exciting matters, engaging directly with key stakeholders and relishes the opportunity to influence an industry, this role is for you.
About you
Candidates must have:
- obtained a Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor and be admitted to legal practice in Victoria with a current practising certificate;
- strong organisational skills and demonstrated capacity to balance and prioritise tasks and commitments;
- a proven ability to deal with pressure situations, and to appropriately manage confidential information;
- accurate and knowledgeable expertise regarding legal matters;
- excellent verbal, written and communication skills;
- demonstrable and sound skills in drafting legal documents, preparing briefs and assessing evidentiary materials in legal proceedings and/or domestic tribunals;
- highly efficient skills in the provision of legal services and a strong commitment to client service;
- effective interpersonal skills to contribute as a team member; and
- an understanding of, an interest in, or experience in the operations of the racing industry or another sport.
