Racing Victoria (RV) is one of Australia’s leading sporting organisations and the independent governing body of thoroughbred racing in Victoria. Racing Victoria exists to develop, promote and grow the sport of thoroughbred racing in Victoria and to safeguard its integrity.

We are looking for a suitably qualified candidate to join our in-house communications team in the role of Stakeholder Engagement and Communications Specialist. 

 The Opportunity

This is an exciting and rare opportunity for a qualified and experienced communications professional to join our team. This role is focused on supporting the growth of Racing Victoria’s Corporate Reputation and the delivery of key organisational objectives by engaging stakeholders and communicating clearly with them in areas which support RV’s social licence to operate.

Our Government Relations & Corporate Affairs team are a small group of experienced, passionate and professional individuals who are committed to supporting Racing Victoria being the best it can be. If you are a self-motivated professional who enjoys working on diverse and exciting matters, engaging directly with key stakeholders and relishes the opportunity to influence an industry, this role is for you.

About you

Our ideal candidate possesses the ability to:

  • Builds and sustains relationships within the organisation, across the racing industry and with a diverse range of external stakeholders.

  • Confidently presents messages in a clear, concise and articulate manner. Focuses on key points for the audience and states the facts.
  • Creates meaning for the audience by using analogies and stories to illustrate key points.

Candidates must have:

  • Demonstrated experience in communications, journalism, PR or related media field
  • The ability to engage key stakeholders, as well as work in cross functional teams to deliver outcomes.
  • Proven written skills – the ability to write concisely, to length and strict deadlines
  • Detailed knowledge of Victorian Thoroughbred Racing and its key stakeholders and events
  • Prior experience using digital and social media platforms for corporate media
  • Previous experience identifying news angles and successfully pitching to media outlets
  • Be prepared to undertake regional travel and occasional weekend work and or flexible hours
  • Journalism or Communications degree or an associated post graduate qualification
