Racing Victoria (RV) is one of Australia’s leading sporting organisations, and the independent governing body of thoroughbred racing in Victoria.  The Opportunity

The Post-Racing Initiatives Officer will assist the Equine Welfare Manager with the implementation of the recommendations of the Equine Welfare Strategic Plan as they relate to post-racing. This role will support the structure and program initiatives to maximise outcomes for thoroughbreds bred for racing.

This rare opportunity will see the successful incumbent develop and implement programs that support the post-racing transition of Off the Track (OTT) horses, a community of OTT owners, Racing Victoria’s Acknowledged Retrainers Program, and assist in developing a framework of opportunities for non-competition OTT horses and supporting relationships. This position will play a key role in assisting to develop communication of the ‘post-racing framework’ and to create a decision map to assist owners and trainers on retirement of their racehorses.

You will have previous project or initiative delivery experience, and a working knowledge as well as passion for thoroughbred and/or equestrian industry. The ability to build and maintain stakeholder relationships and all level of the organisation and have strong negotiation skills will help you succeed.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the development and implementation of a tiered framework and standard operating procedures for Racing Victoria’s Acknowledged Retrainers Program;
  • Assist in generating opportunities to promote RV Acknowledged Retrainers and facilitate partnerships.
  • Assist in the tracking of re-trained Off the Track horses.
  • Assist with the development of opportunities to support and educate OTT owners.
  • Liaise with RV Communications team to promote OTT owner good news stories.
  • Assist in the development of OTT objectives and competition sponsorship strategy.
  • Coordinate OTT competition sponsorship agreements and delivery.
  • Liaise with equestrian organisations in relation to opportunities for OTTs.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of programs that support the post-racing transition of non-competition OTTs.
  • Assist in the investigation of opportunities for OTTs and development of relationships and partnerships to support these opportunities e.g. Equine Therapy, Police.
  • Assist in the collation of information relating to outcomes of non-competition OTT horses.

 

About you

As the successful candidate, you must possess the following:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills which facilitate interaction with a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Pro-active and self-motivated;
  • Proven problem-solving skills and demonstrated attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management and forward planning skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise, identify key actions and coordinate various work streams to maintain momentum.
  • Team focused with sound organisational skills and the ability to effectively manage multiple issues/projects.
  • Competence with the Microsoft Office suite of products, email and the internet.
  • Current Driver’s Licence holder

 Desirable:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification e.g. Equine Studies, Equine Science, Equine Business Management, Business Management or Business Administration.
  • Experience with sponsorship agreements.
  • Experience with merchandise.
