Racing Victoria (RV) is one of Australia’s leading sporting organisations and the independent governing body of thoroughbred racing in Victoria. We develop, promote, and manage the conduct of the racing of thoroughbred horses in Victoria to safeguard its integrity.
RV are looking for a suitably qualified Legal Counsel to join our Integrity Services team, reporting to the Senior Legal Counsel - Integrity Services.
About the Opportunity:
This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified and experienced legal professional to join our team. This new position plays a pivotal role in our Integrity function by providing advice on integrity matters and enforcement of the Rules of Racing.
If you are a self-motivated professional who enjoys working on diverse and exciting matters, engaging directly with key stakeholders and relishes the opportunity to influence an industry, this role is for you.
About you
The successful candidate will need the following qualifications, skills, and experience:
- Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor with a current practising certificate from any state or territory in Australia;
- at least three years of Post Qualification experience;
- excellent organisational skills to balance and prioritise commitments;
- excellent legal interpretation skills;
- excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills;
- exceptional legal research skills;
- litigation experience, especially with respect to:
- the provision of submissions before Courts / Tribunals; and/or
- briefs of evidence / pleadings in legal proceedings / tribunal matters;
- efficient provision of legal services and strong commitment to client service;
- administrative and criminal law experience; and
- an understanding of, an interest in, and/or experience in the operations of the racing industry.
