Racing Victoria Limited (RV) is one of Australia’s leading sporting organisations and is the governing body of thoroughbred racing in Victoria. We develop, promote and manage the conduct of thoroughbred horse racing in Victoria, with our aim to provide the best racing to our customers and encourage more people to engage with and enjoy our great sport.
This role supports RV’s teams spanning integrity, intelligence and investigations, equine welfare, veterinary, raceday operations, participant welfare, health and safety and marketing, amongst others.
The Opportunity:
Reporting directly to the Executive General Manager - Legal, Risk & Compliance, this role is responsible for delivering risk, compliance and insurance services across RV and the RV Group at a strategic and operational level. The role will also influence compliance and risk management knowledge across the industry.
Critical to success is advocating and influencing an industry culture of safety first, good corporate governance, risk minimisation, and business transparency.
Key to this role is managing the RV enterprise risk management (ERM) and enterprise compliance management (ECM) frameworks across the business, including focusing upon the identification, mitigation and management of financial and non-financial risks, and leading a safety-first culture.
The General Manager, Saftey, Risk & Compliance will work in a collegiate and progressive environment – one which is complex and ever-changing.
Key Responsibilities include:
Safety Management
- Model best practice health and safety leadership by ensuring specialist and strategic advice, practical guidance and support is available
- Deepen leaders understanding and commitment to leading safety across the RV Group
- Support the on-course safety team ensuring a culture of safety-first
Risk Management
- Support the implementation and management of RV’s Enterprise Risk Management Framework;
- Enhance the alignment of key risks and appetite into strategy development;
- Work closely with the business to identify and assess key operational and compliance strategic, business and emerging risks;
- Oversee and embed the use of RV’s software solution in the reporting and analysis of key risk areas;
- Support management on key projects in providing input on risk considerations and outlining clear accountabilities for the management of those risks;
- Oversee, with the support of an OHS resource, RV’s management of health and safety across its workforce alongside the business;
- Oversee, with the support of the Risk & Compliance Manager, RV’s insurance program; and
- Support the work of the operating subsidiaries (our media investments) in respect of their risk management processes and procedures.
Compliance Management
- Oversee and manage RV’s Enterprise Compliance Management Framework and all compliance activities, including in respect of continuous improvement opportunities;
- Oversee and manage RV’s privacy and FOI compliance obligations;
- Provide advice, guidance, support and training/education to RV on compliance matters;
- Direct, manage and conduct presentations and deliver compliance planning;
- Support management on key projects in providing input on compliance considerations and outlining clear accountabilities for the management of those obligations; and
- Support the work of the operating subsidiaries (our media investments) in respect of their compliance processes and procedures.
About you:
As the successful candidate, you must possess the following:
- Be tertiary qualified in related discipline or equivalent higher-level qualification; and/or previous experience in applying risk management / financial system audits and internal audit / assurance practices.
- Have experience in, and a practical approach to, occupational health and safety management
- Have strong comprehension of compliance, audit and risk standards and be confident in interpreting internal procedures.
- Able to build and sustains relationships within the organisation, across the racing industry and with a diverse range of external stakeholders in order to influence, guide and assist.
- Confidently presents messages in a clear, concise and articulate manner, suitable to the audience.
