Racing Victoria (RV) is one of Australia’s leading sporting organisations and the independent governing body of thoroughbred racing in Victoria. We develop, promote and manage the conduct of the racing of thoroughbred horses in Victoria to safeguard its integrity.

We are looking for 2 Software Engineers (1 x frontend, 1 x backend) to join our Digital Transformation & Technology Team.

What do the roles involve?

These are permanent roles for Software Engineers in an agile squad which delivers for our Integrity and Race Day services. You will work alongside other Software Engineers, QA and DevOps to deliver business-critical applications and functions, technical planning, estimates and POCs.

Whilst your primary function is as a hands-on coding Software Engineer, within this cross-functional squad you can expect to be involved in all aspects of delivery. This is a great opportunity to gain broad experience - from stakeholder management to AWS environment orchestration - and everything in between.

What are the key responsibilities?

  • Perform software development, enhancements and bug fixes for our platforms
  • Maintain and improve overall quality of the code base. Adhere to high standards of development practices and continuous improvement;
  • Solution design and creation of prototypes and POCs;
  • Liaise with technology peers across the industry and RV’s third-party technology partners;
  • Create and maintain technical documentation relating to software development and enhancements.

About you:

You are proactive, have strong interpersonal skills and show a willingness to adapt and learn. These are some of your verifiable attributes:

  • Extensive knowledge of modern software development best practices and patterns
  • Frontend - Significant experience in React (or similar framework), UI/UX design and linting
  • Backend - Significant development experience Python and NodeJS
  • A strong software engineering background
  • Solid experience in agile software development practices
  • Experience in developing and growing microservices architecture
  • Experience in integrating with third-party systems
  • Strong data and application security knowledge and skills
  • Strong knowledge of - and enterprise-level experience with - AWS services (including Lambda, API Gateway)

Nice to have (but not essential)

  • Degree in Software Development or related discipline
  • Experience in developing against the AWS SDK
