Strategic Racing Analyst

Racing Victoria (RV) is one of Australia’s leading sporting organisations, and the independent governing body of thoroughbred racing in Victoria. We develop, promote and manage the conduct of the racing of thoroughbred horses in Victoria to safeguard its integrity.

We are looking for an experienced and driven analyst who has demonstrated experience of racing, wagering and intelligence to join RV Integrity Services Team.

The Opportunity:

Reporting to the Manager – Betting and Intelligence Unit (BIU), this role is responsible for:

  • Providing technical advice relating to wagering and form analysis and supporting raceday operations.
  • Proactively identifying integrity concerns through monitoring & analysis which has the potential to lead to integrity investigations.
  • Driving new ways of working in betting intelligence, including innovating process and digitising statistics and reporting.

Critical to the success of this role is someone who is capable of delivering BIU core functions (supporting raceday operations) along with proactively generating investigative leads, supporting investigations and innovating processes and statistical reporting.

The suitable candidate would need to be experienced in the above responsibilities but also resilient, a great communicator and confident in dealing with internal and external stakeholders. The suitable candidate would be joining a team of five staff who work in Betting and Intelligence.

Key Responsibilities are, but not limited to:

  • Monitoring of market movements and daily wagering activities on Victorian thoroughbred races which include telephone betting, recordings, betting exchanges, pari-mutuel and corporate bookmakers to develop profiles and patterns of behaviours;
  • Provide advice to the Integrity Services Department (ISD) on wagering market anomalies/abnormalities that may require further investigation;
  • Demonstrated excellence of race times, ratings and wagering markets;
  • Conduct investigations into betting irregularities, conduct analysis and provide advice and support to ISD as required;
  • Assist in the identification of any significant and irregular race and/or form activities that may impact race performance;
  • Analyse race performance for Stewards as required and requested;
  • Develop form analysis including speed maps, price guides, pre-race analysis and statistical data as required;
  • Collate, manage and interpret data relevant to wagering and form analysis to assist with investigations;
  • Provide analytical support for enquiries from ORIC, other PRA’s, police and other LEA’s and other sports regulators as required;.
  • Produce clear and concise intelligence reports;
  • Proactively identify area’s and provide solutions to improve existing work processes and procedures;
  • Assist in the development of automated monitoring tools, including the integration of statistical analysis;
  • Assist in the maintenance and development of manuals and process documents to ensure they are current and reflect Control Room objectives;
  • Undertake other duties assigned by the Manager – Betting and Intelligence Unit (BIU).

As the successful candidate, you must possess the following:

  • Demonstrated analytical skills, especially in the collation and interrogation of data and report writing;
  • Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills, especially in the collation and interrogation of wagering and form data report writing;
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of technology
and software applications to effectively undertake task requirements;.
  • Acknowledges mistakes and learns from them, and seeks guidance and advice when required.
