We are looking for an accomplished and highly experienced legal professional to join Racing Victoria in the capacity of Senior Legal Counsel within the Integrity Services Department.

This key position is responsible for the provision of legal advice, strategy and representation for our Integrity Department, the Racing Victoria Integrity Council, and the Racing Victoria Board of Directors. The range of matters within the scope of this role is extensive and complex, and includes the provision of legal advice in relation to all racing integrity matters and investigations, policy reform, operation and interpretation of the Rules of Racing, wagering matters, veterinary and welfare issues, media and stakeholder communication strategies, governance and disciplinary structures, to name a few.  In addition, it advises and takes a leading role in the preparation of proceedings before the Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board, VCAT, and the Supreme Court of Victoria, often requiring appearance at hearings.

You have extensive and high-level legal skills and experience, and a strong understanding of sports integrity and disciplinary issues. You have a demonstrated capacity to provide legal advice and services in a regulatory environment, including in relation to investigations and prosecutions.  You are adept at shifting your focus between operational and strategic matters as the need arises.  You are a skilled communicator and are effective at stakeholder engagement and management

To be considered, you will need 6-10 years’ PAE in a top-tier law firm and/or in-house environment, where you have gained exposure to a broad spectrum of legal issues, and have demonstrated experience in litigation. A passion for sports integrity, and an understanding of the operation of the racing industry and/or sports administration, will assist you realising the full potential of this role.

With superior verbal and written skills, your leadership qualities enable you to build and sustain relationships based on trust. You have a demonstrated ability to work in a high-pressure environment, and manage a varied and intensive workload.  You are results- and client-focused, work independently or as part of a team, and possess a high-level of attention to detail.
